Here's what your drinking habits look like over a year
How you compare
Your drinking compared to the US population
Annual Effect On Your Body
Based on consuming 2.19 gallons of pure ethanol per year
Liver
Your liver is working overtime. Fat deposits are likely accumulating, setting the stage for inflammation.
64% increased risk of liver disease. Up to 90% develop fatty liver at this consumption level.
Brain
Measurable brain shrinkage occurring. Your hippocampus (memory center) is deteriorating.
2.3% reduction in gray matter. Memory formation is impaired, IQ decline accelerates.
Heart
Elevated cardiovascular risk. Your heart muscle is weakening and blood pressure is rising dangerously.
+14 mmHg blood pressure increase. 50% increased risk of atrial fibrillation ("holiday heart syndrome").
Gut
Chronic gut inflammation. Your intestinal lining is becoming permeable ("leaky gut"), allowing toxins into your bloodstream.
60% reduction in beneficial bacteria diversity. 3x increased risk of IBS and inflammatory bowel disease.
Sleep
Chronic sleep deprivation. You're trapped in a cycle: alcohol to sleep, then insomnia and anxiety without it.
45% REM sleep loss. 109 nights of poor sleep annually. 3x increased risk of chronic insomnia.
Skin
Accelerated aging visible. Chronic inflammation is destroying collagen faster than your body can produce it.
Your skin is aging 4.5 years faster than normal. 50% increase in fine lines and wrinkles. Permanent facial redness likely.
Teeth
Significant tooth decay. Enamel erosion is accelerating. Gum disease and chronic bad breath are developing.
60% increased risk of periodontal disease. Sugar and acid causes permanent enamel loss. Sensitive teeth inevitable.
Immune System
Chronic immune suppression. You get sick more often and take longer to recover.
50% reduction in white blood cell function. 3x increased risk of pneumonia and respiratory infections.
Medical Warning: These calculations are based on epidemiological data and peer-reviewed research. Individual health impacts vary based on genetics, overall health, and other factors. Alcohol is a Group 1 carcinogen (same category as tobacco and asbestos) with no safe consumption level according to the WHO. The damage shown is cumulative and largely irreversible.
How We Calculate These Numbers
We use simple, evidence-based averages to estimate your yearly totals. Each drink is counted as one standard drink (about 0.6 fluid ounces of pure alcohol) — roughly a 12 oz beer, 5 oz glass of wine, or 1.5 oz shot of spirits. Your weekly inputs are multiplied across 52 weeks to estimate annual totals.
Costs are based on your entered price per drink, while calories are estimated using average values for each drink type (Beer ≈150, Wine ≈120, Spirits ≈100 calories).
Gallons are calculated from standard serving sizes — for example, 12 oz beers add up to about 65 gallons per year if you drink eight per week.
Note: These numbers are for educational insight only and shouldn't replace professional guidance. They're meant to give you a clearer picture of how small habits can add up over time.
